Largest Federal Employee Union Files Amended Shutdown Lawsuit

Article Title: Largest Federal Employee Union Files Amended Shutdown Lawsuit
Snippet of Article: "...After the 2013 shutdown, approximately 25,000 essential federal employees, represented by Heidi Burakiewicz, now a partner with KCNF DC, sued the government, arguing that the Fair Labor Standards Act requires that all employees, including federal employees, be paid on time for their services. KCNF DC is in the process of setting up an electronic sign-up system for people to use to join the case. In the meantime, questions federal employees have about the case can be emailed to the law firm at 2018shutdownlawsuit@kcnlaw.com..."

“We intend to hold this election and prevail. It is clear that these EPA scientists need someone to protect them so they can continue to ensure all of us have clean air to breathe and safe water to drink. They stand at the front lines of ensuring that human health and the environment are protected,” concluded Kelley...."

AFGE Applauds MSPB Ruling Against Federal Career Intern Program

Article Title: AFGE Applauds MSPB Ruling Against Federal Career Intern Program Snippet of Article: "...This inconsistency with Civil Service Rules has a major effect on veterans preference, as demonstrated in the case of Larry Evans, a preference-eligible veteran with a 60 percent service-connected disability who applied for a Veterans Service Representative position at the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2009. VA conducted a competitive examination for the VSR position and generated a certificate with the names of 25 candidates, all of whom were preference-eligible veterans who received near-perfect scores even without veterans preference points being applied. Yet VA filled all nine of the open VSR positions with FCIP appointments under excepted service rules...."
